How to Become a Contributor

Want to share your knowledge with the TMS community? Here's how the contributor application process works.

Who Can Apply

Anyone with a TMS account can apply. We're looking for people who:
  • Have genuine experience or expertise in their topic
  • Can explain things clearly and step-by-step
  • Care about helping others learn
  • Are willing to write quality, well-structured tutorials
You don't need formal credentials. A passionate home cook, weekend woodworker, or self-taught coder are all welcome.

The Application Process

Step 1: Click "Teach Something"

When logged in, click the "+ Teach Something" button in the navigation.

Step 2: Tell Us About Yourself

Fill out the "About You" section with your display name, bio, and social links.

Step 3: Propose a Tutorial

Describe what you want to teach — the title, category, difficulty, and your approach.

Step 4: Submit and Wait

Our admin team reviews every application personally. You'll see an "Under Review" status while it's being processed.

Step 5: Approval

When approved, your account is upgraded to Contributor and you get access to the Contributor Dashboard.

After Approval

As a contributor, you can:
  • Create tutorials with our rich text editor
  • Save drafts and work at your own pace
  • Submit for review when ready
  • Track your content performance
  • Earn money from paid tutorials (85% of each sale)

Writing Great Tutorials

  • Start with a clear goal — What will the reader learn?
  • Break it into steps — Numbered, manageable chunks
  • Use simple language — Avoid jargon
  • Add visuals — Photos and videos help enormously
  • Include tips and warnings — Share what you wish you'd known
  • Test your instructions — Can someone follow them from scratch?

Rejection

If rejected, you'll receive feedback. Common reasons:
  • Proposal too vague
  • Topic already well-covered
  • Bio needs more detail
You can reapply with an updated proposal.
