Creating Your First Tutorial

You've been approved as a contributor — congratulations! Here's a walkthrough of creating and publishing your first tutorial.

The Contributor Dashboard

Visit your Contributor Dashboard to see stats, your tutorials, and quick actions.

Starting a New Tutorial

Click "New Tutorial" to open the editor.

Required Fields

  • Title — Clear, descriptive, action-oriented
  • Category — Choose the best fit
  • Difficulty — Easy, Medium, or Hard
  • Content — The tutorial body

Optional Fields

  • Read Time — Estimated completion time
  • Featured Image — Main image for cards and social sharing
  • Photos — Additional illustrative images
  • Videos — YouTube or Vimeo embeds
  • Tags — Up to 5 keywords for search discovery
  • Price — Free or paid (minimum $0.50)

The Rich Text Editor

The editor toolbar includes:
  • Formatting — Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough
  • Headings — H2 and H3 for sections
  • Lists — Bullet points and numbered lists
  • Blockquotes — For tips or callouts
  • Code blocks — For code snippets
  • Links — Hyperlinks to external resources

Draft Mode

Not ready to publish? Save as Draft.
  • Drafts only require a title
  • Auto-save triggers after 30 seconds of inactivity
  • Status indicator shows "Draft saved at HH:MM"
  • Come back anytime to continue

Submitting for Review

  • Fill in all required fields
  • Review your content
  • Click "Submit for Review"
  • An admin reviews and approves or gives feedback

After Publishing

Your tutorial appears on the Browse page, its category page, in search results, and potentially on the homepage.

Setting a Price

  • Toggle pricing to "Paid"
  • Set your price (minimum $0.50)
  • You earn 85% of each sale
  • Free tutorials get more readers; paid tutorials generate income

Tips for Success

  • Write a compelling title — First impression matters
  • Use a featured image — Tutorials with images get more clicks
  • Keep paragraphs short — One idea per paragraph
  • Add practical examples — Show, don't just tell
  • Respond to Q&A — Engage with readers
  • Check reviews — Feedback helps you improve
